Women's Fitness

The Women’s Fitness is dedicated to the athlete often seen on the magazines such as Oxygen and Muscle & Fitness HERS. This physique has slightly more muscle definition and is more conditioned than that which is called for in Women’s Swimwear/Bikini and is slightly less muscular than what is called for in Women’s Sculpting/Figure. Women’s Fitness final results and placings are based on the sum total of points from Phase 1 and Phase 2.

Judging Criteria

Stage Presentation

Stage Presentation is a measurement of how well the athlete presents herself and displays her physique on stage, as well as adherence to TaMaarta posing standards . Judging Officials are looking for athletes to showcase command of the stage, presence and poise, and the ability to convey personality to the audience. Athletes should be able to quickly and smoothly transition between poses.

Symmetry

Symmetry is a measurement of evenness of development between all muscle groups and proportion when viewed from all sides. It includes the balance and proportion of the competitor from side to side, top to bottom and front to back. No body part or muscle group should stand out from the rest.

Proportion

An appropriate to impressive shoulder, waist, and hip ratio shows precise and intentional muscle development in targeted areas.

Conditioning

Conditioning refers to the level of differentiation between adjacent muscles, delineating sections or fibers within the same muscle group and the degree of firmness (hardness) of muscle tone. Leanness is important but an overly dieted appearance is neither advantageous nor desirable. Women’s Fitness Athletes should not display deeply drawn-in faces or stringy-looking muscularity (an emaciated look).

Muscle Definition

Muscularity refers to muscle size and development relative to the competitor’s frame, including shape and size. The shape and contour of the developed muscle and muscle groups are also to be considered. Women’s Fitness Athletes should display: A degree of muscularity greater than Women’s Swimwear but less than Women’s Sculpting; however, excessive mass is not desired. Well-defined muscles that flow evenly; round, full delts that flow into the biceps and triceps; a taper in the lats flowing into the obliques with fluid lines into the sweep of the upper thigh; some quad development; full, round, firm glutes.

Physique Indicators

Women’s Fitness Athletes should demonstrate visible muscle definition and conditioning, no striations, including: visible abdominal separation; some separation between delts, biceps and triceps; some quad/hamstring definition; and, round, firm glutes. Women’s Fitness Athletes should not be described as ripped, shredded, striated, dry, diced, hard, vascular, grainy, massive, thick, dense.

Posing

Mastery and presentation of mandatory poses, stage presense, connection with judges and audience.

Classes

Open

Available to all competitors in the division.

18-39

Open to athletes from 18-39 years of age.

40 Plus

Open to athletes 40 years of age or older.

SHort

Open to division athletes up to and including 5’5″ tall.

Medium

Open to division athletes over 5’5″, up to and including 5’8″ tall.

Tall

Open to division athletes over 5’8″ tall.

Mandatory Poses

  • Front/Rear Poses - The front and rear poses are to be with head and eyes facing the same direction as the body, heels and toes together, knees can be soft, but should not be overly bent. Arms should be no more than 2 inches from the competitor’s hip (front and side) and should be relaxed from the elbow down through the fingers. Lats should be spread wide as to accentuate the v-taper. Shoulders and chest should be high, but not hunched toward the ears.
  • Front Double Biceps - Front Double BicepsOpen hands displaying flexed biceps with one leg posted to the side and flexed to accentuate the quad.
  • Side Pose - In the left and right side stances, the head and eyes are facing the same direction as the body (to the side), heels are together or front foot may be shifted slightly forward of the rear foot (no visible space between the feet). Both legs should be straight and athletes should not bend either knee. Athletes may twist slightly at the waist, while keeping in mind that the twist cannot be overly done. Twist only slightly enough that that the rear shoulder (furthest away from the judges) can be displayed. The front arm (closest to the judges) must not be moved any further than the midline of the hip.
  • Side Triceps with Leg Extension - Hips facing the right or left of the stage, with the competitor’s upper body slightly twisted to face the judges. The leg closest to the judges should be extended and flexed to display the quad with the rear leg bent. Hips should be pushed back and chest should be high. Athletes may hold the arm nearest the judges by reaching behind the back to display the triceps, or by placing the rear hand on the hip and twisting forward with the arm closest to the judges flexed with the palm down to display the triceps.
  • Rear Double Biceps - Open hands displaying flexed biceps with one leg posted to the rear, out to the side and flexed to display the hamstring.
  • Side Chest with Arms Extended - Hips facing the right or left of the stage with the leg closest to the judges extended and flexed to display the quad and the rear leg bent. Hips are pushed back. Arms are extended out in front of the competitor’s body with one hand placed over the other and the rear shoulder tilted upward to open the chest and display the chest to the judges.
  • Abdominals and Thigh - Hands reached behind the competitor’s head and abs flexed (air blown out) with one leg extended forward and flexed to display the quad.
  • NOTE: Athletes who are overly twisted or not following other TaMaarta posing standards may, at the discretion of the head judge, be corrected. If the athlete fails to adjust when corrected, the judging officials are instructed to address this in their scoring. Failure to comply with TaMaarta posing standards will result in a lower scoring in the stage presentation criteria. Athletes are permitted to utilize other posing during their individual presentation.

Attire

Women’s Fitness Athletes will be judged in active sportswear (tank and shorts) appropriate for athletics. Attire can be of any color, pattern, and style. Also, should be in good taste. TaMaarta Officials reserve the right to disqualify an athlete from competing in a specific competition if their attire is deemed inappropriate. Jewelry and hair ornaments will be  allowed but should be limited. No props will be used at any time during judging of Women’s Fitness. Athletes’ numbers must be worn on front left hip and rear middle of their suit. Athletes are advised to have their attire pre-approved by sending images of themselves in the suit to the TaMaarta Head Judge.

Crossovers

Women’s Fitness athletes may crossover into the Fitness Diva Model and/or Bikini divisions but NOT into the Women’s Swimwear or Women’s Sculpting division.

Competition Tans

All tanning must be performed by the approved Tanning Provider. Self-tanning or tans by unapproved third party tanning providers are NOT allowed. Competitors will NOT be allowed on stage with unapproved tans.

Results & Placing, Pro Status, and Prize Money

*Results and Placings for this division are based on both Phase 1 (10 Exercise Circuit) and Phase 2 (Stage Presentation) combined scores by class.
*TaMaarta Elite Status is awarded, pending successful urinalysis, to the First Place athlete in an Open class that has a minimum of five (5) athletes.
*TaMaarta Masters Elite Status is awarded, pending successful urinalysis to the First Place athlete in a Masters class that has a minimum of ten (10) athletes.
*This division becomes a Prize Money Incentivized division when there are ten (10) or more athletes competing in the Open class. The First Place athlete will receive, pending successful urinalysis, a $1000 prize.
